5 Uses for…peroxide

Today begins our year long series, “5 Uses For Friday”. Each Friday, on @maradachaffins, I will talk about a random household ingredient and five uses for it that you may, or may not, know about. We are beginning with hydrogen peroxide.

  1. Induce vomitting in dogs with hydrogen peroxide. Let me preface this by saying, seek guidance from your veterinarian before ever inducing vomitting in your fur baby. Some substances may cause more harm if regurgitated.

To make your dog throw up, give 1 tsp. per 5 lbs. of the dog’s body weight (maximum 3 T.). If no vomitting, you can administer again in fifteen minutes.

  2. A mixture of 1 tsp. peroxide and 1 cup water can be used to disinfect your toothbrush. Soak for fifteen minutes.

  3. To prolong the life of fresh produce, soak in a mixture of 1/4 c. peroxide per 1 gallon of water for thirty minutes. Rinse and dry before refrigerating.

  4. Apply a small amount of peroxide to a blood stain on clothing. Allow to sit for five minutes, then blot. Rinse with cold water.

  5. Peroxide is also a running joke in my family. From paper cuts to ingrown toenails, my mom has always applied peroxide to whatever injury we have. Many internet articles are written on how applying peroxide to injuries can actually delay the healing process. I’m 46 and my mom has always brougt out the peroxide for every bump, scrape, ache and pain that my girls or I have had. I’m not saying to do it, just telling you what has always been our “go to”.

Each week, I will add a bonus use that you will only find on the blog. The sixth use for hydrogen peroxide is cleaning diamonds! Mix a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and Windex in a small bowl. Allow to soak fifteen minutes and rinse!

Let me know in the comments if you use peroxide for anything else! Please also let me know if is anything you would like for me to include in the “5 Uses For Friday” series. I’m looking forward to learing together in 2023!
