10 Reasons Why I’m “Whiskey in a Teacup”
I was recently gifted the Reese Witherspoon book, “Whiskey in a Teacup”. Written inside was “To Marada, one of the most ‘whiskey in a teacup’ gals I know.” Well that really peaked my interest! I immediately dove into the book and pages into it, I knew that was 100% accurate!
Before sharing my list, let me encourage you to read this book…especially if you grew up in the South! Almost every page, I found myself squealing “me too!” For your enjoyment, here’s a list of ten reasons why I’m “whiskey in a teacup”.
Reese Witherspoon played “Rocky Top” at her wedding. I chose to the same song, to perform on guitar, for my ever-so-important high school pageant in 1993!
The above leads me to this one. Reese grew up admiring Dolly Parton. When asked in grade school what she wanted to be when she grew up, she replied, Dolly Parton! As for me, apparently, I thought I was Dolly Parton! (see photo below!)
We both grew up around gardens; picking beans with our grandpas and “broke them up” with our grandmas.
Watching the Barbara Mandrell Show was a weekly highlight for us. Louise Mandrell was the favorite sister for both of us! (love a good fiddle!)
Dinner time conversation with her kids is called “Roses and Thorns”. Dinner time conversation for my gals and I is called “Peak and Pit”. Both involve sharing the best and worst part of your day.
Reese refers to wise sayings and words from her grandma as “Betty-isms”. (Betty was her grandma). I have always referred to the wise crack one-liners from my daddy as “Cuch-isms”. (Cuch was my daddy)
She and her gals decorate a store bought gingerbread house each Christmas season and proudly display it on the kitchen island. Ditto at our house! We take it a step farther, drawing an imaginary line down the center, allowing each gal to decorate one. side.
Ive always watched how people treat waiters. I think you can tell a lot about a person’s character from that. Reese does the same thing…and for the same reason!!!
There’s a store that Reese and her family no longer shop at because of an incident she refers to as “the stolen donut”. It’s her story to tell, but in a nutshell, someone at the store wrongly accused her sweet little grandma of a stolen donut! How dare they?! Since that day, the family no longer shops at that establishment. Well, my mom, daughters and I, no longer shop at a store that we frequented for years! They didn’t hire a family member for a part-time job…and like I said, we had been good customers for a LONG time! We will now get those same products out of town or order online. Southern roots run deep!
I could easily come up with several more similarities, but my final reason, for the purpose of this article…I have hot rollers and I’m not afraid to use them!!!!
